Summary
2026 NPSA Conference Insights & Tampa Bay Container Outlook
Due to rising inflation (3.3%) and global shipping demands, portable storage prices are rising and specialty container supply will be tight through Fall 2026. A American Container is focusing on integrating AI and the award-winning Omni~View platform to streamline local dispatch and billing.
Key Takeaways for Tampa Bay Businesses
- Market Alert: Container costs are trending upward driven by energy prices and a 78% Chinese dominance in shipbuilding. Manufacturers are prioritizing massive new vessel orders over specialty storage units, meaning limited availability for modified containers/offices until late 2026.
- Tech Upgrades: A American Container is transitioning to Omni~View (2026 NPSA Supplier of the Year). Customers will see consolidated billing, faster response times, and 99.99% system reliability.
- AI Integration: Artificial Intelligence is now standard for fleet management and predictive routing, ensuring more efficient delivery and yard management in the Tampa area.
- Expert Advice: With supply chains shifting and costs volatile, industry leaders recommend starting container purchases or modification projects immediately to secure current inventory and pricing.
Every year, the National Portable Storage Association brings together the best in the business for a few days of learning, networking, and real talk about where our industry is headed. This year’s NPSA Conference and Trade Show took place April 12 through 14 at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa, and as a past Chair of NPSA, I was proud to be back on the ground attending sessions, catching up with fellow operators, and sitting in on the board meeting.

At A American Container, we have been serving the Tampa Bay area since 1998, and conferences like this are one of the ways we make sure we are always bringing the best solutions, the best technology, and the most up-to-date industry knowledge back home to our customers. So let us walk you through what we learned and why it matters if you are a business owner, contractor, or homeowner in Florida looking for portable storage solutions.
The Big Picture: Rising Costs and a Shifting Supply Chain
One of the most talked-about topics at this year’s conference was the economy, and it is not hard to see why. U.S. inflation jumped to 3.3 percent in March 2026, up from 2.4 percent just the month before. That is the highest it has been since May 2024, and it is being driven in large part by rising energy costs. For anyone buying, renting, or modifying shipping containers, this matters. When fuel prices go up, delivery costs follow. When materials cost more, so do modifications. It is a reality we are watching closely.
On the global stage, China continues to dominate the shipbuilding industry. Chinese shipyards secured roughly 78 percent of all container ship contracts in 2025, building approximately 468 vessels out of around 600 total orders worldwide. An estimated 10 million TEU of new ship capacity is currently on order and scheduled for delivery over the next few years. That is an enormous amount of new vessel capacity hitting the water.
So what does this mean for companies like ours? Here is the part that matters most to our customers: industry experts at the conference shared that new production on specialty containers, the kind used for modifications, offices, and custom builds, will likely be put on hold until fall as manufacturers prioritize supplying containers for these new ships. That means supply on specialty units is expected to be tight through the summer and into early fall. Container prices are already trending upward, and reduced availability on specialty units will only add to the pressure.
If you have been thinking about purchasing a container, especially one with modifications, now is the time to start that conversation.
Technology Is Changing How We Serve You
One of the highlights of the conference was the very first session, hosted by Omni~View. If that name does not sound familiar yet, it will soon. Omni~View is a software platform built specifically for the portable storage industry. It handles everything from dispatching and scheduling to billing, inventory management, and customer communication, all in one connected system.
At this year’s conference, Omni~View was recognized as the 2026 NPSA Supplier of the Year, and that award was well deserved. The platform has delivered 99.99 percent system uptime and maintains a 95 percent customer retention rate. This tells you a lot about the trust operators across the country place in their technology.
Here is the exciting news for A American Container customers: we are actively transitioning our AR and dispatch operations to the Omni~View platform. What does this mean for you? Faster response times, better scheduling, consolidated billing. Now, multiple rental containers will now appear on a single invoice instead of individually, and an overall smoother experience from the moment you call us to the moment your container is delivered. It is part of our ongoing commitment to running a smarter, more efficient operation. It’s our goal to serve Tampa Bay better than ever.
AI Is Here, and It Is Already Changing Our Industry
Another major theme at this year’s conference was artificial intelligence. AI is no longer a buzzword or a far-off concept. It is actively being integrated into logistics, dispatching, inventory tracking, and customer service across the portable storage industry.
For a company like ours, that means better tools for managing our fleet, predicting demand, and making sure we have the right containers available at the right time. It also means smarter routing for deliveries, more efficient yard management, and less time spent on manual processes that slow things down. We left the conference with a clear picture of how AI will continue to shape the way we do business. And, we are excited to bring those improvements home to our customers.
Leadership That Moves an Industry Forward
The keynote sessions this year were outstanding. Betsy Allen-Manning delivered a powerful talk on what it takes to be a high-impact leader. Specifically, the kind who builds trust, shapes culture, and inspires ownership in the people around them. Her message resonated across the room: paycheck leaders will only ever produce paycheck employees. If you want a team that truly cares, it starts at the top. For a family-run business like ours, that message hit close to home. Betsy also led a high-energy breakout session for the Women of NPSA called “DNA of Highly Resilient Women: Reduce Stress and Burnout, and Recharge Your Energy and Purpose”. It was one of those sessions that left the room buzzing. She brought real strategies for managing the demands that come with leading in a fast-paced industry. All while making sure you do not lose yourself in the process.
Even more incredibly speakers shared their insights
Courtney Ramsey also delivered an outstanding session called “Quit Hitting Snooze on Tough Conversations”. With more than 20 years of experience in leadership development and human resources, Courtney tackled something every business owner and manager deals with: the conversations we know we need to have but keep putting off. Whether it is a performance issue, unclear expectations, or a difficult decision that has been lingering too long. She showed us how avoiding those moments does not make them go away, it makes them bigger. Her message was practical, engaging, and honestly something every leader in any industry needs to hear.
Gene Marks offered a fast-paced, practical session on navigating 2026 and beyond, covering strategies for managing uncertainty in the economy, adapting to shifting political and technological landscapes, and positioning your company for long-term growth. Ross Bernstein closed out the conference with an incredible keynote about what makes champions in sports and how those same traits translate to business. After interviewing more than 1,000 professional athletes and coaches, his conclusion was clear… The characteristics of championship teams in sports mirror the habits of peak-performing companies.
The Trade Show Floor: A Look at What Is Coming
Walking the trade show floor is always one of the best parts of the conference. With more than 60 exhibitors, there was no shortage of new products, container innovations, trailers, and supplier services to explore. It is the kind of event where you can shake hands with the companies building the containers, the suppliers manufacturing the parts, and the tech companies developing the tools that make the entire industry run more efficiently.

For us, it is also a chance to evaluate new products and services that could benefit our Tampa Bay customers. Whether that is a new door configuration, a better insulation system for Florida heat, or a more efficient delivery process… The trade show floor is where we discover the next thing that makes our containers work harder for you.
What Makes NPSA Special
Here is something people might not expect about a trade association conference: it is personal.
After the sessions end and the trade show floor closes for the evening, the real magic happens. Groups gather together, friends from across the industry sit down, and the conversations keep going. Stories get shared. Laughs happen. Advice gets exchanged.
It is one of my favorite parts about this industry. Even after the days events wrap up, everyone gathers together and we all continue to talk and laugh about life. The relationships built through NPSA are not just professional, they are genuine. And those connections are what allow companies like ours to stay informed, stay connected, and ultimately serve our customers better.
As a past Chair of NPSA, I have watched this organization grow and evolve over the years, and I can tell you firsthand that it is one of the reasons the portable storage industry continues to raise the bar. The dedication of the members, the quality of the programming, and the sense of community… All of these make every conference worth the trip.
What This Means for You
Calling all business owners in Tampa, Clearwater, Brandon, Sarasota, or anywhere in the greater Tampa Bay area! Here is what you should know heading into the rest of 2026:
- Container prices are rising. Between inflation, rising material costs, and global supply chain pressures, the cost of both new and used containers is trending upward.
- Specialty container supply will be limited. With manufacturers prioritizing production for new ships, expect tighter availability on specialty and modification-ready containers through fall.
- Technology is making the experience better. Our transition to Omni~View means a faster, more reliable experience for every customer.
- We are investing in staying ahead. Conferences like NPSA are not vacations. They are how we make sure A American Container remains the most knowledgeable, best-equipped container company in the Tampa Bay area.
- Whether you need a container for your construction site, your business, your property, or a custom modification project, the best time to start planning is right now. Supply is going to tighten, and the earlier you lock in your container, the better position you will be in.
