In recent months, the shipping container industry has faced a notable surge in prices. This escalation has raised concerns among businesses and individuals who rely on these containers for transportation and storage. At A American Container, we understand the implications this trend could have on your operations and budget. Our commitment to providing affordable containers remains steadfast amid these challenging market conditions.

“The rising costs are a result of multiple factors, including increased demand, supply chain disruptions, and fluctuating material costs,” explains Angie Payne, CEO, A American Container.

We share the reasons behind the rising prices and how we continue to offer cost-effective storage solutions for our valued customers in Tampa Bay and beyond

Global Supply Chain Disruptions and Their Impact on Container Costs

The ripple effects of global supply chain disruptions are profoundly affecting shipping container prices yet again. Factors such as increased delivery times, rising fuel costs, and indirect impacts from rerouted global freight routes have contributed to the escalation.

The Red Sea vessel attacks earlier this year have further strained the already stretched capacity of the shipping industry. These disruptions have persisted for over five months, leaving carriers scrambling to meet the US and Europe’s rising demands. This additional pressure on the supply chain has contributed to the climbing container costs, as companies struggle to find available space and shipping routes.

Plus, these current market conditions are driving up the costs for companies transporting goods from Asia significantly. Companies now face expenses for full-size shipping containers as high as $10,000, which is nearly twice the current spot pricing that carriers and importers are negotiating.

The third-largest carrier in the world, CMA CGM, with its headquarters in Marseille, France, has already declared that prices for 40-foot containers heading to Northern Europe from Asia will rise to $7,000 in the second part of June. This represents a significant increase above the current fee of approximately $5,000. In addition, costs for the first half of June fall between $6,000 and $6,500, with premium services costing between $7,500 and $10,000.

And if we look back to September 2021, spot rates for 40-foot containers to the West Coast of the United States from China were more than $20,000 due to the demand for goods during the pandemic. Then, we saw a surge again four months later when spot rates for shipments from China to Europe came in at almost $15,000.

We’re hoping that this will not be a repeat of what we experienced back then.
