The heat of summer is on its way, are you prepared to keep your container cool?

Shipping containers are increasingly being repurposed for a wide range of uses, from storage and office spaces to housing and pop-up shops. However, one common challenge with using shipping containers is keeping them cool during Florida’s hot summer months.

Fortunately, several strategies can be used to maintain comfortable temperatures inside your container. Follow this guide from our pros at A American Container!

Beat the Heat: Keep Your Container Cool

The summer months can be particularly challenging when it comes to maintaining a consistent temperature inside your container. With proper preparation, insulation, and HVAC systems, however, it is possible to keep your shipping container cool all summer long with these modifications:

Roof Paint

If you’re using a shipping container as an office, workshop, or storage space, you may have noticed that the inside of the container gets pretty hot during sunny days. This is due to the steel roof of the container absorbing all the heat from the sun, which then seeps into your workspace. But don’t worry! There’s a simple solution to keep your container cool: apply a coat of light-colored elastomeric roof paint.

White or light gray reflective paint can make a huge difference in keeping your shipping container comfortable during hot weather.

The reflective properties of this type of paint help to deflect sunlight away from the roof and prevent it from being absorbed. This means less heat will be transferred into your workspace, reducing temperatures and making it more pleasant for you to work in.

In addition to keeping your container cool, applying reflective paint on its roof also helps prolong its lifespan by preventing rust formation caused by moisture buildup.

Insulation

If you’re planning on using your storage container to store items that are sensitive to temperature and moisture, insulation is a must-have.

Insulation can help regulate the temperature inside your container and keep it cool even on hot summer days.

It can also help prevent condensation from forming on the inside of your container, which can cause damage to your belongings over time.

One of the most common types of insulation used in storage containers is spray foam insulation. This type of insulation is easy to apply and creates a seamless barrier between the interior and exterior of your container. It’s also incredibly effective at keeping out both heat and cold, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to keep their container cool throughout the year.

We offer closed-cell spray foam insulation or fiberglass insulation with interior finishing to keep your container insulated from the elements.

Ventilation Techniques

Ventilation is key to keeping your shipping container comfortable in the heat. You can improve airflow by adding vents or windows to allow hot air to escape and cooler air to circulate inside. This will help prevent the build-up of stale air and reduce humidity levels which can lead to mold growth.

At A American Container we offer:

  • Lateral vents (our most efficient and secure vent option)
  • Square vents
